Now, more than ever, our Black and Latinx scholars deserve this. Vanguard Collegiate is a structured and supportive fifth to eighth grade environment where scholars and staff are respected. We, the Vanguard Collegiate of Indianapolis teachers and administrators, “sweat the small stuff” because wisdom is in the details.
Vanguard Collegiate sets our scholars up for success through a carefully scaffolded course of study. Our college prep curriculum in all grades and content areas aligns with the Indiana State Standards and ensures college and career readiness skills.
From these state standards, Vanguard Collegiate created our own interim and end-of-course assessments and backwards plans, directing to the level of rigor expected on college-ready assessments. Daily, our scholars are challenged to demonstrate their academic skills coupled with our core values. Our scholars can do this!
Our Vanguard teachers are supported in holding scholars to a high bar. We are trained to use targeted questioning techniques to push students to higher order thinking and critical analysis.
Our scholars explain their thinking in written and verbal responses and can robustly support their claims with evidence. Our scholars read a wide variety of literature, ranging in complexity and genre. In mathematics, our scholars develop grade level mastery in number sense, computation, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis, and statistics.
Using our slow growth model and playing the long game allows us — as a school — to strategically bring scholars into the culture, processes, procedures, and academic rigor necessary for academic and behavioral success — The Vanguard Way.
