Vanguard Collegiate Principal Abe Tawfeek
“Abe Tawfeek brings to the Vanguard team a wealth of experience in building positive school culture,” said Robert Marshall, founder and executive director of Vanguard Collegiate. “Abe has deep roots in the Indianapolis community, and understands the triumphs of motivating our scholars to aspire to higher learning.”

Central to his role in overseeing the daily operations and curriculum of the institution, Tawfeek will emphasize building upon the unique college-driven culture at Vanguard. He intends to engage family and community partners to help contribute to the educational experience of the school’s scholars, and to the long term vitality of the school.

“The most important thing I can do as principal is to build and retain trust,” said Tawfeek. “I am honored to be a part of the Vanguard family and extremely passionate about offering students that have an upbringing similar to mine a top-tier educational experience.”

Tawfeek holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Marian University in Indianapolis, where he also completed the Building Level Administrator licensure program. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, where he was a student athlete and two-time captain of the football team. He transitioned to teaching and coaching after spending the early part of his career working in business and was honored as the “Biggest Champion of Kids” as a member of the 2014 cohort of the Indianapolis Teaching Fellows. In 2015, he won the All City Coach of the Year award as the Head Football Coach at Northwest High School, and in 2019, he won the Fall Sports Coach of the Year as the Head Football Coach at Crispus Attucks High School.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to make a positive impact on the students and families in Indianapolis, and the Haughville neighborhood community,” added Tawfeek. “I am blessed and thankful for the opportunity to lead a very unique school into its very bright future!”

Tawfeek joins Vanguard school leaders and award-winning staff members who have served middle school students and their families in Indiana for years. Recognizing that scholars enter middle school with a wide range of academic proficiencies, the school has set up supports and services to ensure every scholar is able to reach rigorous educational goals through individualized attention and clear action plans.
