Let us unite together under the integrity of Freedom, Love and Liberty.

We’re thrilled to announce that SEVERAL members of our Vanguard Collegiate team have been nominated for the African-American Excellence in Education Award!

This award honors outstanding public school professionals for their dedication and commitment to academic excellence for all students. It’s presented by The Indy Chapter of Indiana Black Expo, Inc., Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper, Educate ME Foundation Inc., Martin University, and Ransom Company.

Congratulations to Tina Siddle, Nataki Pettigrew, Alyssa McIntyre, Bobby Thomas and Annjatica Imani on being nominated! Thank you for all you do for our students and our community.

Vanguard Collegiate of Indianapolis is designed to represent our community — the neighborhood and the scholars we serve. That means our staff is 90% black and 10% LatinX. Our Board also reflects our Haughville, near west side home. We even source vendors who are minority and women-owned at least 60% of the time. And even during our summer hiatus we are still working hard to stay connected and positively contribute to our scholars’ lives:

  • Every Friday we host a Friday Community Circle. We talk about many different things impacting our scholars in today’s evolving times. A recent program was especially meaningful, as we spoke with our school therapist, Ms. Marcia Lomax, to talk about mental health for parents and kids.
  • Mondays we host Zoom meet ups to talk about becoming a Vanguard. Tell your friends!

We are passionate about equity and about education. We aim to support marginalized groups every day and every way we can. Sometimes that support is shown in how we embrace and participate in our broader Indianapolis community.

Vanguard scholars

In June, three of our Vanguard Collegiate of Indianapolis teachers were certified in Emotional First Aid: Techniques that De-escalate and Support in the Moment. It is part of our COVID-19 return plan to support scholars socially and emotionally, understanding they too have been traumatically impacted by recent events.

In May, 16 Tech awarded us with a $25,000 grant as part of the ProAct Indy program. ProAct Indy will launch a Proactive Community around Vanguard Collegiate of Indianapolis, creating an integrated framework for community engagement that connects the middle school students, corporations, and nonprofits to cross social, racial and economic boundaries.

Vanguard Collegiate of Indianapolis is unapologetically focused on the academic success of our scholars, our fifth to eighth grade students.  Situated in Central Indianapolis, we provide high-quality instruction, rigorous curriculum, and supportive character development. We create pathways to college success and to becoming leaders in thought, word, and action. Be a Vanguard, today!
